Abstract
After a protracted period of transformation of the Polytechnic of
Namibia (PoN) to the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST),
the institution was given a new lease of life when the Minister of
Higher Education, Training and Innovation proclaimed the commencement of
the NUST Act No 7 of 2015 as effective from 16 November 2015. During the
period of transformation significant changes have taken place and
continue to take place as the institution assumes university status. One
of the fundamental changes still to occur that characterises a
university is the establishment of professorships within the academic
structure of the University. This talk will cover what is the nature of
professorships at NUST; will entail what criteria and processes will be
applied to promote and appoint staff to these positions; and what
procedure is proposed for the transition from director to professor. All
these measures will soon be implemented at NUST.
